Chloroquine And Hydroxychloroquine Rushed To Approval By The FDA For The Coronavirus Pandemic, Why Can't Kratom Be Rushed To Approval For The Opioid Pandemic?
The Coronavirus Pandemic has turned into a worldwide emergency, with nearly 1.3 million cases now and 70,000 deaths, and the numbers are rapidly rising. There is still no vaccine for the Coronavirus, and indeed a vaccine may be many months away. However, the President of the United States announced that Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine are effective treatments for the Coronavirus, referencing anecdotal reports from a scientific study where 100% of the patients who received Chloroquine recovered.
Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine are anti-malarial drugs, and also have been used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. Essentially, Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine are known to have efficacy when it comes to disorders where the immune system over responds and starts attacking healthy tissue.
To put a complex subject into just a paragraph, one of the reasons that the Coronavirus causes so much damage is that it causes the immune system to over respond and attack healthy tissue, and Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine are known for suppressing these sort of immune system over responses. Basically, Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine are not a cure for a Coronavirus, but rather prevent the immune system from over responding during a Coronavirus infection, mitigating damage.
Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine were previously not approved for use as a Coronavirus remedy, but with the President and other government officials pushing hard for the approval, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) fast tracked an approval process that would usually take years, and now Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine are approved drugs for the Coronavirus.
This begs the question, if the FDA can fast track a drug and skip years of approval processes for the Coronavirus Pandemic, then why can’t the FDA fast track and approve Kratom or a Kratom based derivative in order to help fight the Opioid Pandemic?
Indeed, the Opioid Pandemic is super deadly. It kills 50,000 people in the United States every year according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and 118,000 people globally per year according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Not to say that the Coronavirus Pandemic is not an extremely serious issue, but the Opioid Pandemic is obviously also an extremely serious issue that is on the scale of the Coronavirus Pandemic. Over 320 people die every day from the Opioid Pandemic worldwide, which is over 13 people every hour, and that will continue long after the Coronavirus Pandemic becomes a memory.
A recent scientific study found that Mitragynine, Kratom’s primary alkaloid, has the characteristics of long sought after novel pharmacotherapeutic interventions for opioid dependence, since Mitragynine causes no physiological dependence but simultaneously relieves the symptoms of opioid withdrawal. Essentially, this study indicates that Kratom can be given to people addicted to synthetic opioids and opiates to help them quit with ease, while not causing a serious addiction of its own.
Not only that, but Kratom has never caused a single scientifically proven death in history despite 15 million Americans using Kratom regularly. This is because Kratom does not induce respiratory suppression, due to having fundamentally different characteristics than synthetic opioids and opiates, and for the same reason Kratom has very little addiction potential.
Thus, Kratom appears to be a miracle cure for the Opioid Pandemic, so why doesn’t the FDA rush it to approval to bring the Opioid Pandemic to an end, just like they rushed Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine to approval to help with the Coronavirus Pandemic?
The most likely answer is that Kratom and its alkaloids Mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine cannot be patented since they are natural, and there is no money to be made on Big Pharma selling Kratom and its alkaloids if they cannot patent them. In-fact, Kratom is seen as competition to Big Pharma’s profits since Kratom is a safe alternative to dangerous and deadly prescription synthetic opioids. Compare this to Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine, which are patented, and therefore Big Pharma is making vast amounts of money selling these drugs during the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Thus, by all logic and science the FDA should rush Kratom to approval to end the Opioid Pandemic, but a faulty money fueled drug approval system is the reason that’s not happening.
